Volunteers help ensure that the MNHPC Annual Conference runs smoothly. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks including:

  • Staffing registration tables
  • Greeting attendees and providing directions
  • Ushering in general sessions and breakout session rooms
  • Assisting with audio-visual equipment
  • Introducing speakers and keeping time during breakout sessions

Volunteers receive a discounted or complimentary registration, which is determined based on the role and the amount of work required.

What is the process for applying to volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering at the 2020 conference, fill out the volunteer application and submit it by February 14, 2020. You will be notified by February 21st if you have been selected to volunteer; if you have not been selected for a volunteer position, you will still be able to register for the conference at the early registration rate (ends March 2nd)

How do you select volunteers?

MNHPC staff makes decisions about volunteers based on several criteria including:

  • MNHPC Membership
  • Experience volunteering at previous MNHPC conferences
  • Attendance at previous MNHPC conferences
  • Skills/attributes needed to fill volunteer roles
  • The number of volunteer applicants from your organization*

*Please note that MNHPC uses volunteer positions as a way of providing financial assistance to organizations who might not have the means to send staff members to the conference. Therefore, we often will limit the number of volunteers allowed from a single organization in order to provide opportunities for others.

What benefits do volunteers get?

Individuals who volunteer for 1/2 day will be able to attend the conference for 1/2 price on the day of their volunteer shift. Though they will have volunteer responsibilities, they will be able to attend general sessions and some of their preferred breakout sessions. Individuals who volunteer for a full day will be able to attend the conference on the day of their volunteer service. Full day conference volunteers will still be able to attend general sessions and some of their preferred breakout sessions, though they may have responsibilities while they are attending sessions. Volunteers for the pre-conference workshop or the Matters of Death and Life Conversation on Monday evening will receive complimentary registration to those events.
